Benefits for women
After 3 weeks of training and daily production on Saxo bags, the women have acquired great knowledge in bag making. Straight stitching and nice finishing is now naturally part of their knowledge.
By sewing the label “handmade by”, they sign their own quality control.
They feel very proud when visitors come to the workshop and buy a bag with their name on it!
A new complementary training on clothe manufacturing (they already made their own uniform) will allow them to be fully skilled in sewing.
Within a few months, when they feel ready, they will leave the project to open their own workshop in town or in their village of origin.
Financial Autonomy & Reintegration
Thanks to their 3 hours of production a day, 6 days out of 7, the young women of the center earn enough money to face their living costs (home, gas, water, food, transportation…) and can therefore rent a room outside the shelter.
Nowadays, 5 of the women leave outside the shelter. 4 of them rent a place together demonstrating clear SAXO team spirit!
On average, they earn the minimum needed within 15 days of production. Therefore they can easily go to school or follow other training in the morning and spare money to buy a sewing machine for their future workshop.
The project’s contribution is decisive in terms of psychological resilience: young women gain the responsibility and satisfaction linked to the achievement of high quality products and regain confidence, self-esteem and the joy of living.
